A circle? What? I always thought of the year as a sloppy ellipsis, with a positive gradient from 01-10 and a negative gradient from 11-12. The connection to the next year isn't a solid line but a dotted one. Also, in my imagination there is a third dimension, which means that the ellipsis doesn't connect to its starting point, but spirals upwards.
