I really don't think those companies listed want to become health insurers / deal with insurance companies.
I really don't see the cost savings here of introducing ANOTHER big company between you and now your insurer ... and the end provider. And at the same time introducing an HSA that means you have to somehow figure out / shop for prices in a market where those prices are nigh impossible to find out / opaque.
This proposal seems like a lot of old ideas / hand waving that really provides no change. Just another layer on the same broken system.
I have killed a laptop and a phone because of this but this was in extreme cold when getting down around -40, temps the vast majority of people avoid spending any amount of time in. Despite killing two devices, I don't think it is much a problem and the best way to combat it is to just leave it in your bag and let it warm up slowly.
Are the numbers he's claiming accurate? They seem like big numbers pulled out of the air, certainly much large than the numbers we've actually seen committed to (not even deployed yet).
I agree about handing the wrong people a microphone, but people are handing it to him and he has money so it potentally matters, even if I think it should not.
Long ago I worked for a group that once in a long while would send someone onsite to fix some proprietary hardware. It was for a US military contractor, but the site was all US military. The process was to take your car key, ID, computer and spare hardware you were bringing in the rental car and follow the instructions to the location. Nothing else (yes you had clothes). You expected to leave with just your ID and key (taken at the gate) and anything else would likely be confiscated.
When you arrived everything was searched, you were blindfolded, driven and walked blindfolded until you were right in front of the rack of equipment to work on. Even a trip to the bathroom was accompanied by a soldier.
Laptop, hardware, all was left behind when you were done.
I remember thinking "pretty smart, that's pretty secure".
Now I don't think there's any other way than to keep personal mobile devices out of the loop.
And for people of high rank ... I gotta think their kids / family mobile devices are a target too, pickup something over dinner discussion maybe.
Certainly seems that way if you observed the waves of usability Google search underwent in the first 15 years. There was several distinct cycles where the results were great, then garbage, then great again. They would be flooded with SEO spam, then they would tweak and penalize the SEO spam heavily, then SEO would catch up.
The funny thing is that it seems like when they gave up it wasn't because some new advancement in the arms race. It was well before LLMs hit the scene. The SEO spam was still incredibly obvious to a human reader. Really seems like some data-driven approach demonstrated that surrendering on this front led to increased ad revenue.
