Anyone have any thoughts on Craft[1] and how it compares to Obsidian as a note-taking tool? My primary work machine is a Mac (I also have an iPad and iPhone). I'm looking primarily for a note-taking app with support for images. I don't necessarily need the more "glamourous" publishing type features that craft has.

Things I like about the app:

* (Generally) good keyboard support

* Syncing (but I'm paying for it)

* Good native apps on mobile

Things that aren't so good

* Editing code blocks

Two reasons why I’m using Obsidian instead of Craft:

Craft uses a proprietary data format. Obsidian is more portable since it just uses folders of Markdown files.

Craft for Windows doesn’t work offline (only online).

* Is the ACM Professional Membership sufficient to benefit from the Pluralsight[1] (and Skillsoft[2]) courses? Or is the All-Access membership required?

* Do people feel the ACM All-Access Membership (Professional + unlimited access to ACM digital library) is worth the additional $75?

Key takeaways:

* Shopify cutting ~1000 workers: most of the layoffs will occur in recruiting, support and sales units

* First big layoffs the company has announced since Mr. Lütke started the company in 2006.

* Shopify’s shares fall 15% to about $31

* Tobi Lütke: "It’s now clear that bet (that surging e-commerce sales growth would last past the Covid-19 pandemic’s ebb) didn’t pay off... I got this wrong"

* Laid off workers to be offered 16 weeks of severance to the laid-off workers, plus one week for every year of service

HuffPost - posted April 26, 2017 A deep-dive into the day-to-day life of a trauma surgeon at Temple University Hospital with it's chair of department of surgery -- a trauma surgeon at Temple for 30+ years. Until 2016, Philadelphia was deadliest of the 10 largest cities in the country according to one analysis [0].

Hey @JackWritesCode. We're eagerly waiting for the 1-year review you promised us when you uttered the legally binding words: "Sure :)" last year[0]

Because workers have more time to upskill in a recession, companies that offer services in this area (e.g. SIS systems, etc.) might also do well. From what I can recall, one of my former employers (https://moderncampus.com) has traditionally done well during an economic downturn.

From the PV man page (https://linux.die.net/man/1/pv)

> A more complicated example using numeric output to feed into the dialog(1)

> program for a full-screen progress display: ...

> Frequent use of this third form is not recommended as it may cause the programmer to overheat.

^- is that a wisecrack hidden in an otherwise serious man page?

PSA: don't use linux.die.net. It's horribly outdated.

This sentence was removed from the man page in pv 1.4.0, released in December 2012.

Agreed, actually enjoy using Arch manpages now:

Just happened to be the first result that came up, but good to know.
