That has nothing to with anything. Books are less fun then youtube/netflix/tiktok/video games.
And unlike youtube and tiktok, they cost money and you have to go to bookstore or library to get them. There are no equivalets of kids journals/channels that would promote fun books to kids either.
Schools cant change that. When my generation read, a lot of it was cheap junk with formulaic plot. That was replaced by tiktok. And once that does not exist, the books are not perceived as potential fun for kids. They are just another homework
I noticed google not being able to find smaller blogs a few years ago. The sort of blogs I used to like and read a lot - small irregular blog of an expert in something like cryptography, sociology etc kind of disappeared from the search. Then they disappeared for real.
Even when I knew the exact name of article I was looking for google was unable to find it. And yes it still existed,
Marginalia search is good for this. But generally it’s becoming a real problem due to Google’s dominance. Blog authors ought to look into web rings and crosslinks again to help each other out with discovery.
I have noticed the same thing. And the blogs are still there, I checked, and marginalia returns them as top results when I search the relevant keywords. Google just really doesn't care.
This has nothing to do with Ukraine or Eastern Europe and everything to do with Americans not willing to have their kids vaccinated. Which is result of right wing propagandists who wanted to achieve exactly this and got rewarded for it.
24 of the cases originated at a church where the congregation is primarily eastern European. But to your point - as long as the local population is below 95% fully vaccinated, it's going to spread. Regardless of national origin or religious & personal beliefs.
I feel like there are subcultures that value "long hours and hard work" over "result".
If you can produce great things easily, then it is lazy. But if worked hours and hours including through Christmans, then it is great even if result is crap.
I prefer cruelty signaling, because there is profound difference between the impact of the two on the world. Insisting on naming things so that "bad thing" and "good thing" are undistinguishable is not neutral, it is biased and favors bad actors.
It is material exactly here. The preference for "ideology signaling" comes from desire to frame both sides as the same. "Cruelty signaling" is very accurate descriptor. It does not even suggest right wing only thing, if someone on the left signals cruelty, they would engage in cruelty signaling. And if someone on the right performatively helps poor, they are engaging in virtue signaling.
The trouble is, if the things are called as what they are, you cant say "both sides are the same". Because one side is promoting cruelty and the other is not.

I notice that people are largely staying pretty quiet about the politics of the Kirk murder since shortly after it happened. I assume it is because, to the extent there is evidence of any ideology, groyper fits as well as leftist. Maybe better, even.
