The author’s logic is flawed. The school has many students and faculty that went to listen presumably because they like the speaker. A small group shouldn’t be able to ruin it for everyone else. Nor did the speaker go there primarily to insult the entire student body.
Yet in the analogy presented, the author attempts to compare it to the NYT inviting the author to come insult them. We can agree the NYT has every right to choose not to do that while also agreeing should some within the New York Times decide they wanted the author to come, the others should simply choose not to attend rather than attempting to prevent it from happening.
