Honestly I think that some sci-fi has been somewhat accepted at this point; people write serious analyses of sci-fi these days, and you no longer really see sci-fi pretending not to be sci-fi (notably, Atwood did this with Handmaid's Tale, and _at the time_ you can see where she was coming from, because contemporary sci-fi was mostly pretty narrowly trope-bound...)
